Solar PV Panels

Generate your own electricity and slash your energy bills. Solar panels convert sunlight into free, clean energy for your home - even on cloudy days.

What is Solar PV?

Solar photovoltaic (PV) panels convert sunlight directly into electricity. Installed on your roof, they capture energy from daylight - not just direct sunshine - and convert it into usable power for your home.

Any electricity you generate but don't use can be exported back to the grid, earning you money through the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG). Combined with a battery storage system, you can maximise your savings by storing excess energy for use in the evening.

Save Up To £1,000/Year

Typical savings on electricity bills with a 4kW system.

Free Electricity

Generate your own power during daylight hours at no cost.

25-Year Performance Warranty

Long-term guarantee on panel performance and output.

How Solar PV Works

Solar panels are a proven, low-maintenance technology that will generate clean electricity for decades.

1. Capture Sunlight

Solar cells in the panels absorb photons from daylight and convert them to DC electricity.

2. Convert to AC Power

An inverter converts the DC electricity into AC power your home appliances can use.

3. Power Your Home

Use the electricity directly in your home, reducing what you buy from the grid.

4. Export or Store Excess

Surplus electricity is exported to the grid (earning you money) or stored in a battery.

Is Your Home Suitable for Solar?

Most homes can benefit from solar panels. Here's what makes an ideal installation.

Roof Orientation

South-facing roofs are ideal, but east and west-facing roofs also work well. North-facing roofs can still be viable depending on pitch and shading.

Minimal Shading

Trees, chimneys, or neighbouring buildings that cast shadows on your roof will reduce output. Some shading can be managed with optimisers.

Roof Space & Condition

You'll need approximately 20m² of roof space for a typical 4kW system (10 panels). Your roof should be in good condition with no repairs needed soon.

Benefits of Solar PV

Installing solar panels is one of the best investments you can make in your home.

Reduce Energy Bills

Generate free electricity during the day and cut your reliance on expensive grid power.

Earn From Exports

Get paid for surplus electricity you export to the grid via the Smart Export Guarantee.

Increase Property Value

Homes with solar panels typically sell for more than comparable properties without.

Reduce Carbon Footprint

Solar is 100% clean energy. A typical system saves around 1 tonne of CO2 per year.

Frequently Asked Questions

A typical 4kW solar PV system costs between £5,000 and £8,000 installed. Larger systems cost more but generate more electricity. We provide detailed quotes after surveying your property, and funding may be available through schemes like ECO4 or the Warm Homes Plan.

Yes! Solar panels generate electricity from daylight, not direct sunlight. While output is higher on sunny days, they still produce significant power on cloudy days - typically around 10-25% of their rated capacity. The UK has plenty of daylight for effective solar generation.

Modern solar panels are incredibly durable and typically come with a 25-year performance warranty. Most panels continue generating electricity well beyond this - many systems installed 30+ years ago are still working. Inverters may need replacing after 10-15 years.

Most domestic solar panel installations are considered 'permitted development' and don't require planning permission. Exceptions include listed buildings, conservation areas, or if panels would protrude more than 200mm from the roof. We'll advise you during the survey.

A battery storage system allows you to store excess solar energy for use in the evening when panels aren't generating. This maximises self-consumption and savings. We offer battery storage solutions that can be installed with solar panels or added later.
